Homework Grading Rubric

CS 584/684 HW: Grading Rubric

Bart Massey

Here's some things to look out for when grading CS 584/684 homework.

  • If the assignment is not anonymized, please just say that and give it back. Do be careful to anonymize your grading.

  • You will give a score between 0 and 10 for the overall quality of the work. This is not the grade. It is merely an overall quality indication. Some things to consider when scoring:

    • Format and style: Does the work meet the format requirements given for the assignment? Is it clearly and readably organized? Is the pseudocode understandable?

    • Content: Does the writeup answer the questions of the assignment? All of them? Completely? Is the pseudocode correct? Are the proofs convincing? Is the analysis correct?

  • If the score is less than 10, you will need to also upload comments indicating what was wrong. Please be polite and encouraging; rudeness will not be tolerated. (If you feel someone was inappropriate in grading your assignment, please let the TA and I know.)

Comments should be constructive. Where did the student go wrong? What could have been done about it? More detail is better than less.

If you have any questions about how to grade an assignment, please ask the TA and I. We are happy to help you get the right outcome.
